The 15th century façade is a mixture of styles, the bottom half
with its decorative lozenge patterns deriving from Byzantium,
the top half with its classical motifs in the fully fledged Renaissance
style. Far and away the best work of art in the interior is the
marvellous Giovanni Bellini of the Madonna and Child with Saints,
dating from 1505, in the left aisle. The dazzling colours and
introspective mood are characteristic of the master's late style.
So satisfying to see a masterpiece in its original setting, where
the architecture in the painting echoes its surroundings.
