This smart and comfortable hotel on the Grand Canal is a welcome
new edition to the Venice hotel scene.
Run by Paolo Morra, until recently the main man at the Gritti,
the service and slick management are equal to any of the more
expensive five-star establishments in the city. The Sant’Angelo
is impressively located on the Grand Canal (near to the Sant'Angelo
vaporetto stop, without being affected by the noise). On entering
the hotel you can either relax with the daily papers in the sitting
room, or enjoy a drink, made by the charming barman, whilst
looking out at the bustle of the Grand Canal from the bar.
There are only 26 bedrooms at Palazzo Sant’Angelo and
they are all newly decorated in 18th Century Venetian style -
think heavy silk walls and thick dramatic curtains. Bedrooms
are very comfortable, all with linen sheets and air conditioning.
The immaculate green marble bathrooms boast thick towelling robes,
monogrammed towels and jacuzzi baths with integrated showers.
Palazzo Sant’Angelo perfectly covers the middle ground
in the search for a luxury Venetian hotel. The location is perfect
on the Grand Canal. It is clean and smart (no faded charm here!)
and the level of service is second to none. Its four-star
status makes this hotel the properly affordable option for those
searching for the experience of the Grand Canal classic hotels
like the Gritti, but shying away from their lofty price-tags.
