Novecento

The Hotel Novecento is the fashionable little sister of our old favourite the Hotel Flora. Beautifully run by Gioele Romanelli, this little gem of a place has the same charm of the Flora which has been owned and run by his parents for years.

Centrally situated down a small passage off Campo San Maurizio and just a short walk from Piazza San Marco, the hotel is a melting pot of traditional Venetian taste and Middle Eastern influences. The beds are from Thailand, antiques and fabrics from Pakistan and Morocco, and bathrooms are up to date and well-equipped (a novelty for Venetian hotels of this size!) There is only one bathtub however.

Ceilings are low and beamed, with stained bottle glassed windows and the smell of incense throughout. There is a charming sitting room on the first floor with comfortable arm-chairs and a small and cosy garden courtyard where breakfast and afternoon tea can be served. Breakfast is a feast of freshly baked breads and pastries with home made jams, and on our last visit, small touches included a plate of freshly sliced feta surrounded by wild strawberries. In the evening an honesty bar is set up in the downstairs sitting room which adds to the feeling of being in a friend’s home.

With only nine rooms you need to book ahead (it would be perfect to take for a large celebration) and for those looking for something a little different to the traditional Venetian hotel.
