The small discreet entrance and reception of Hotel Casa Verardo can give a slightly misleading impression on arrival, and it is not until you wander through to the immaculate evocative courtyard with its big white umbrellas and chic wicker sofas, that one can grasp the true charm of this delightful hotel. Having been in the same family for the past 80 years, it is now owned by Daniela and Francesco, a delightful couple who have every reason to be proud of this historic 16th century Venetian Palazzo after its careful restoration, whilst still leaving intact its enchanting ambiance.
The charming and spacious rooms are all individually decorated with period furniture and curtains, and most have bath tubs which are a rare treat in Italy. Our favourite room has a private terrace with a canal view – perfect for a romantic get-away. As well as air-conditioning, all the rooms have Internet WiFi connection.
A lovely rooftop terrace with panoramic views over Venice provides a quiet retreat for those looking for some peace and relaxation, and there is also a terrace on the first floor where breakfast is served. The most recent addition is a fantastic lounge bar on the ground floor which remains open until the early hours, and also allows guests to enjoy their apéritivi or night cap in the quiet courtyard.
This hidden gem is situated down a quiet narrow passageway in the residential streets of Castello, whilst being just a four minute walk from the bustling Piazza San Marco and 10 minutes from Rialto. Its location on a picturesque quiet canal makes the hotel entrance inaccessible by water taxi, however the next door canal at Ponte all' Canonica is not far away, and the hotel will send a porter to help you with your luggage.
