The Cappella Baglioni in the left aisle was completely
frescoed by Pinturicchio in 1500-1. The scenes of the Annunciation,
the Adoration of the Shepherds, and Christ among the Doctors,
with their brilliant colours, ideal architecture and limpid landscapes,
are among his best works. Notice his self-portrait in a trompe
l'oeil frame in the Annunciation. Ironically, these peaceful
scenes were commissioned by Troilo Baglioni, prior of the church,
at the very moment when his relations in Perugia were indulging
in a wholescale massacre of their opponents. There are two late
Peruginos of the Pieta and the Madonna and Child with Saints
at the end of the nave. Notice the underdrawing beneath the figures.
