This secluded church outside the walls of Assisi
retains the humble spirit of St Francis. In order to do so, it
discourages mass tourism by encouraging prayer and silence, neither
part of the regular tourist industry. This was where St Francis
renounced the world and where St Clare died.

there
Walk down Borgo Aretino from Santa Chiara
and follow signs downhill through the olive groves (should
take about 15 mins)
