The restoration of Benozzo Gozzoli's delightful
frescoes of the Life of St Augustine is almost finished. They
were painted in 1452 and form the centre-piece to this little
museum of Umbrian art, housed in the old Franciscan church. The
wealth of incidental detail which makes Gozzoli such a popular
painter was very influential locally. The church contains further
early frescoes by Gozzoli, an Adoration of the Shepherds by Perugino
and a number of fine works by their followers.
