Welcome to the Walks pages - here we have
listed our suggestions for sight-seeing and interesting
places to visit during your trip to Umbria. |
WALK
THREE: SPOLETO |
Required
Time:
Half
a
day |

Ponte delle Torri |

Duomo |
Roman
Theatre |
San Pietro (façade)
Strong candidate to be the most beautiful
Umbrian hilltown. Breathtaking first view of the Duomo.
From the 6th to the 13th century the Lombard Duchy of Spoleto
was a major power in central Italy. |
WALK
FOUR: TODI |
Required Time: Half a day |
Piazza del Popolo |
Duomo |
San Fortunato |
Santa
Maria della Consolazione
Magnificently situated on its hilltop. Legend
has it that an eagle stole a tablecloth from a local dining
al fresco and dropped it here; he could not have chosen
a better spot. The views from the town centre over unspoilt
Umbrian countryside are spectacular. |
WALK
FIVE: SPELLO, MONTEFALCO, BEVAGNA |
Required Time: Whole day |
Porta Venere |

Santa Maria Maggiore |
Montefalco |
Bevagna
- Piazza Silvestri |
Each little town possesses its own character.
Spello is probably the prettiest, Bevagna has a delightful
town square, while Montefalco's superb position has earned
it the reputation as 'the Balcony of Umbria. The surrounding
countryside encapsulates the charm of rural Italy. Feels
like a real discovery. |
WALK
SIX: ORVIETO |
Required
Time:
One
hour |

Duomo |
Stands on imposing clifftop and has been
an important defensive site since the Etruscans founded
it in the 7th century BC. During the Middle Ages the
town, like so much of central Italy, was riven by feuds
between Guelphs (pro Pope) and Ghibellines (pro Emperor).
Many of the oldest buildings are constructed of golden-coloured
tufa. |
