Fontana Maggiore, Perugia

The centre-piece of the main piazza in Perugia, once the site of the Roman Forum. The two tier fountain was sculpted by Nicola Pisano and his son Giovanni, the leading sculptors in Italy at the end of the 13th century. The Months are particularly realistic. On either side of the fountain stand the civic and ecclesiastical centres of medieval government: the handsome Palazzo dei Priori and the Duomo.
