Stands right beneath the apse of the Duomo. The font has excellent
bronze reliefs (1417-30) of the Life of St John the Baptist by
the greatest sculptors of the early Quattrocento. Most remarkable
is Donatello's very complex and sophisticated Feast of Herod,
where the figures, depicted in true perspective, one of the first
examples in Italy, shrink back in horror from the Baptist's head.
