Tucked away down a narrow cobbled street yet two minutes walk from the excitement of the main square, Campo Regio Relais is a little gem in the thriving heart of Siena. Arriving through the discreet entrance, it comes as a huge surprise to be greeted with such a glorious view from the first floor. Undoubtedly one of the best views of the city, overlooking the Duomo and Baptistery and nearby church of San Domenico.
There are only six rooms in total, which makes it very much in keeping with the new genre of small, luxury B&B’s. Our favourite room is a suite on the top floor with a huge terrace and fabulous view – a wonderful and spoiling place to spend a romantic weekend. The remaining rooms are all well decorated and of a decent size, with most looking over via Sapienza. Therefore be sure to request a room with a city view. Bathrooms are immaculate – nearly all with showers and stuffed with fluffy white towels and monogrammed towelling bath robes.
Upstairs there is a charming breakfast room and library area; in the summer months a large terrace filled with pink and red geraniums provides the perfect place to enjoy breakfast, read a book in the cool of the afternoon, or watch the swallows darting and ducking over the city below.
In a city bereft of good hotels (apart from the five star Continentale), Campo Regio Relais offers a cosy and comfortable base from where to explore Siena and her surrounding hilltowns and countryside. The service is excellent, and in the past staff have helped our clients arrange tickets to the Palio – the highlight of the Tuscan calendar.
