A wonderful selection of Old Masters collected by the Papacy. Every sort
of treasure has ended up here over the centuries. Most people never progress
beyond the great Renaissance masterpieces. Highlights are beautiful frescoes
by Melozzo da Forli, Raphael's Transfiguration, his last great altarpiece, and
Caravaggio's haunting Entombment, the star of the recent exhibition at the Royal
Academy and at Palazzo Venezia in Rome.
