The perfect little hotel in Venice may be as elusive as an undiscovered Canaletto, but Emily knows (it’s Oltre il Giardino, by the way; Jeremy Paxman loves it). Emily knows everyone, from blissful fabric spinners to glass blowers, to principessas and the places to find the crispiest friend calamaretti on the Amalfi coast. Villas? She is admirably straight: the person who will tell you that the cook is sensational, the pool immaculate but that there’s a throbbing deep freeze by bedroom number seven. Private guides to everything, everybody, everywhere. She can get the Sistine Chapel shut for private visits.
