Another Neapolitan palimpsest: a gaunt Gothic church with interesting
tombs, and a Baroque cloister with remarkably well-preserved
Roman foundations (it is on the site of the Forum). San Lorenzo
has very strong Florentine literary connections: it was in the
church that Boccaccio fell in love with Maria, immortalised as
Fiammetta; 8 years later Petrarch experienced a terrible storm
in the cloister.
