Oplontis is very near Pompeii, but fits better with Herculaneum,
since the latter is so much smaller than Pompeii.
The villas of Craxus and Nero's second wife Poppaea Sabina (either a very brave
or very foolish woman), show the full extent of the dolce vita of Neapolitan
antiquity. They show the extraordinarily luxurious lifestyle of the rulers of
ancient Rome, with their vast, porticoed gardens, marvellous trompe l'oeil paintings,
and extensive slave quarters.
