The
Oltrarno retains its distinctive flavour, with antique
shops crammed into every side street. A short walk,
taking in Masaccio's monumental fresco cycle, Brunelleschi's
handsome last church, the magnificent Galleria Palatina
in the Pitti Palace and the strange Pontormo frescoes
by the Arno, shows the extraordinary wealth and diversity
of Florentine art. It is an unrivalled visual treat.

WALK FOUR |
|
Required Time: Two Hours |
 |
Uffizi Gallery |
|
|
The
greatest picture gallery in Italy, if not the world.
Masterpieces by every major Florentine painter from Giotto
to Michelangelo and a host of foreign masters. Dodging
the crowds, make sure you have lots of time to decide
whether Botticelli lives up to his reputation as the
most popular artist of the Quattrocento.
