This delightful building, also built by Michelozzo for Cosimo,
and entirely covered with frescoes by Fra Angelico, possesses
all the freshness of the Florentine Quattrocento. The first room
in the cloister is devoted to Fra Angelico's panel paintings,
imbued with a purity of emotion and painted in clear, primary
colours. Upstairs, beyond a beautiful Annunciation, each monk's
cell contains a fresco by Fra Angelico and his pupils of the
Passion of Christ, intended for meditation. Somehow, it is difficult
to imagine that the sinister Savonarola was Prior of this monastery.
