The
Lungarno Suites only opened a couple of years ago and were the
brilliant idea of the Ferragamo family who wanted to combine
the service of a hotel with the style of a staying in your own
apartment. Situated overlooking the Arno between the Ponte Vecchio
and Ponte Santa Trinita, there are no public areas - just a discreet
entrance to a lift that whisks you up to your apartment.
The apartments themselves range from small studios
with a small kitchenette (hidden from the bed by a sliding screen)
to the
luxurious fifth floor two bedroomed suites with terraces overlooking
the river.
The kitchenettes all come complete with a welcome
hamper of food including pasta, fresh coffee and a delicious
pasta sauces. You
can fill out a shopping list every morning before heading off
sight seeing and your food will be delivered that afternoon.
Or do the shopping yourself, as one of the real delights of
the city are the fabulous food markets including the vast Mercato
Centrale which is the ideal place to people watch amidst the
mountains of fresh porcini mushrooms, tiny wild strawberries
and wild boar salamis swinging from the stalls.
Bathrooms are all a good size with delicious tailor-made
Ferragamo bath products. The rooms are either decorated in soothing
baby
blue or a bright orange and include cashmere blankets on the
beds and leather trunks to store your clothes. If you are staying
for longer than a couple of nights the smaller suites may feel
a little claustrophobic and dark and we would suggest the deluxe
suites with the splendid view of the river and a terrace where
you can have your morning capuccino.
