Three of the grandest ancient Greek temples in existence. The
Doric temples, built between 530 and 450 BC, and probably dedicated
to Neptune, Hera and Ceres, possess an austere grandeur. They
now stand a few kms inland. The museum adjoining the site, contains
wonderful examples of Greek funerary painting, especialy the
Tomb of the Diver. The rediscovery of the temples in the 18th
century, caused a sensation, and led directly to the Greek Revival.
