Amalfi

Amalfi preserves a cathedral from its era of greatness in the 11th century, when its maritime republic rivalled Venice and Genoa. The great bronze doors, made in Constantinople, date from this era. The striped facade, with its interlocking arches, shows the strong influence of Islam. This is especially prominent in the late 13th century campanile and the Chiostro del Paradiso.
