The Mezzatorre itself is located in one of the most beautiful coves of Ischia – an island just off the Amalfi coast and renowned for its thermal waters. The hotel is a place for romance, relaxation and renewal, and feels a million miles away from the hustle and bustle of Naples and Capri whilst being conveniently located between the two. It perches spectacularly on a rugged promontory, with breathtaking views out to sea and surrounded by 7 hectares of pine groves and shrubbery.
The main body of the hotel is an old watch tower dating back to the 16th century that was used by the locals to defend themselves against the Saracens. It is now home to romantic rooms and suites that are all individual in style as they fit into their 16th Century housing. Others are scattered in groups around the grounds of the hotel that surround the cove. Junior suites in the park all have sea-views and balcony/terrace, and some even have their own jacuzzi on the terraces.
Sunbathing takes place on the terraces, sloping gently from the tower and park down to the sea. There is a gorgeous swimming pool with heated salt-water, which hangs above the rocky sea cove. Down at the cove one can swim off the rocks in the crystal clear Mediterranean water. There are two restaurants with bars – one next to the tower and the other pool-side one is more casual for lunch with outdoor seating looking out to sea. Both offer wonderful regional and international food, focusing on local fish.
If you get bored, the Mezzatorre is just over 2 km from the sea-side town of Forio, with its castle walls, pedestrianised shopping streets, and golden, sandy beach. It is also less than 1 km from Lacco Ameno, with its shops, beach and little harbour. Otherwise, ferries and hydrofoils run to Naples, Capri and Positano.
As if all this is not enough, there is also an impressive and well-equipped Spa and
Beauty Centre making the most of the islands thermal waters. Here you can benefit from some of the most advanced treatments and therapies, as well as a thermal pool, gym and Turkish bath.
